Welcome to one of DJI’s most advanced quadcopters ever, the Matrice 100. This drone is one of the most advanced on the market today. It comes with dual battery compartments that allow for extended flight time of up to 40 minutes with the lowest payload. Also, you can achieve perfect balance with its customizable flight platform equipped with DJI’s built-in technology such as GPS, propulsion system, flight controller, and DJI Lightbridge. This is a fully programmable system that can autonomously operate through complex tasks, allowing the pilot to focus on the footage and goal at hand.
Increasing the torque is as simple as adjusting the angle on the 4 legs. By adjusting them to a 3° angle, you can increase performance and improve yaw torque. Quick release landing pads are installed for softer landing and reduce impact. The Matrice 100 for sale from DJI also has built in programming to prevent overzealous pilots from landing too quickly.
The dedicated transmitter is fully customizable with adjustable controls. Connect to your Android or IOS device with the included outputs and access a real time map or live view. The remote control contains full mobile app support. Create your own app with the DJI SDK or download the full feature DJI pilot app.
One of the really nice features that DJI incorporates into their DJI Matrice 100 is a fully automated flight process called “Guidance”. This advanced feature is designed to avoid obstacles; completely eliminating the possibility of a crash or impact.
Things We Like
Flight Time – One of our favorite features, and any drone enthusiasts favorite features, is a long flight time. At forty minutes it’s hard to find anything on the market that can beat it. The Matrice 100 from DJI uses dual compartment batteries to keep the quadcopter flying and you filming.
Compatibility and Customizability – The DJI Matrice 100 is compatible with several DJI components and cameras. The expansion bays let you design your quadcopter to your specifications, while having the capability to move components around to achieve perfect balance and performance.
Fully Automated Flight Process – The “Guidance” obstacle avoidance system is an ingenious piece of equipment incorporated into the drone. If you are spending this much money on a quadcopter, it’s highly beneficial to be able to avoid the possibility of any mistakes.
Can Connect to the Oculus Rift – If you thought the DJI apps, such as the DJI pilot app, was cool; you’ll really get a thrill from connecting it to the Oculus Rift. This specific integration allows you to control your camera gimbal’s directional view by just moving your head. The “Inspire One” is also compatible.
Stability – The Matrice 100 is constructed out of strong, lightweight carbon fiber. Each arm is incorporated with a vibration absorbing material that creates a smooth flying experience and 50% less vibration.
Things We Don’t Like
Pricing – Yes, the DJI Matrice 100 comes equipped with highly advanced features included in the flight platform, design, and transmitter. But at $3,000-$4,000 (after the purchase of Guidance), the Matrice 100 isn’t a bargain. This particular drone model does fall under into our favorite commercial drones, but it’s not something to buy the kids for Christmas.
Additional Costs – Unfortunately, you will need to purchase a gimbal and a camera in order to utilize all the functions associated with the Matrice 100. In addition, the “Guidance” system is not included with the quadcopter purchase. These items can considerably boost the cost in your cart at checkout.

We found that DJI has created an empire of highly advanced, unmanned flying machines, and the Matrice 100 is no exception. A lot of excited enthusiasts are ready to fly this unit, especially because it’s specifically designed for hacking. However, the price of this drone is not a welcoming selling point. As far as recommending it to the average hobbyist or beginner, we would have to say no. However, corporations or research developers that are looking for a quadcopter that is advanced and capable of shooting commercial aerial photography and videos, absolutely.
