The Air Hogs Helix X4 is a stunt quadcopter that’s incredibly easy to fly. The ducted fans protect the blades and keep it in excellent condition if your flight abilities falter and you accidentally crash. The transmitter also makes this easy to fly and easy to perform incredible tricks. Our Air Hogs Helix X4 review is designed to explain the most important features of this toy drone and to help you make the correct decision in your purchase.
In our beginner drone series, the Air Hogs quadcopter is a basic multirotor with some cool stunt abilities. It’s not something that’s going to last a long time or something you have to take special care of. It’s simple to use and easy to fly (once you get the hang of it). We suggest buying something like this as a fun way to learn how quadcopters operate and how to fly them. This was one of our first RC drones and we’re still incredibly fond of it (even though the wires have started to short a bit).
One of the reasons we haven’t forgotten about this guy over our years of drone use is it’s stunt capabilities. Read on below to see more of these features function and make this one of the best toy drones out there.
Things We Like
Flight: The Air Hogs Helix X4 stunt quadcopter is incredible to fly. It’s not hard to see why either. Once mastered its easy to perform advanced tricks like backflips and barrel rolls. This drone is mainly designed for indoor use. This stunt drone has 4-ducted fans and gyroscopic stabilization that both help to maintain flight stability. This reduces a lot of the stress as a pilot. The overall flight capabilities are pretty simple and it should only take you a few minutes to be able to fly it, even with no experience.
Mods: For a beginner drone, the Air Hogs Helix x4 does an excellent job of allowing for some simple and fun mods. YouTube user Chris Allen shows some cool features including night flight in the video below.
Specifications: The Air Hogs Helix X4 is approximately 6.4 x 7.5 x2 inches, relatively small for a stunt quadcopter. It doesn’t room for storage and shouldn’t be an issue with its size in the air. The battery lasts for about 5-6 minutes, as you would expect with any beginner level drone like this.
Ducted Fans: Instead of using blades, this quadcopter used ducted fans which keep the blades protected. The blades last a lot longer and you end up spending less on repairs. This makes it a great choice for anyone looking to learn without having to worry about destroying their drone.
Skill Level: In our drones for beginner series, the Air Hogs Helix X4 Stunt can be used and enjoyed by anyone from a novice to highly skilled flyers. Even though it is a beginner drone, it is not incapable of performing awesome stunts with just the click of a button.
Customer Satisfaction: This product is highly rated on every site we’ve seen. There is very little negative feedback, and we felt the same way after testing it out.
Things We Don’t Like
Limitations: The Air Hogs Helix X4 quadcopter is more of a toy than a highly-capable drone. Great for indoor use, but not so great for outdoor use. This quadcopter will make an excellent gift for any children seeking an indoor RC quadcopter.
Camera: As this is a toy drone, it does not come with camera capabilities. Do not purchase this drone if you seeking something with attachment options. This is a drone mainly built for fun, and not for serious hobbyists. As we mentioned earlier, this was a fun piece of equipment to learn on because of its durability and its stunt features. Do not buy this thinking it’s more than that.
